Until 1942, membership in the Legion was limited to American Soldiers, Marines and Nurses that had served on active duty during WWI. In 1942, the Legion amended the charter to include WWII veterans; Korean War in 1050; Vietnam veterans in 1966; Persian Gulf in 1991... Veterans of actions in Granada, Lebanon, and Panama became eligible in 1990

The American Legion was founded at a caucus of members of the American Expeditionary force in Paris France, after WWI. It was incorporated by Act of Congress on Sept 19, 1919. Since it;s Creation the Legion has dedication itself to veterans, community and national interests
