Timeline:
· 1924 - American Legion hall was constructed, 1 of 13 halls built by Contra Costa County in the 1920's. The hall was funded by the state which passed a Bond issue and turned monies over to County to be administered.
· 1920's & 30's - Used for movie theater,
· 1930's - Hall was used for Skating rink
· 1948 - Hall served as Brentwood first City Hall (used several years) before relocating across the street.
· 1963 - 65 - Hall was used for classrooms needs after the school partially burnt.

Uses
· Fireman's ball - used for this over 60 years
· Voting - Used for voting and gathering place for many town meetings
· Flood Evacuation center - Holland Tract flooded in 1978
· Plays - Dance Recitals, School Plays, Community Theater, Rotary Trades Club.

Roy E Frerichs Post 202, Chartered in 1919
The American Legion Hall was named for Melvin Leroy Frerichs, Co A 316th Engineers, 91st Division. Frerichs, known to townspeople as "Roy", was born and raised in Byron and was the first casualty from our area in World War I.

Activities
· Boys State - boys selected by the legion take part in a one week course on the practical operation of State Government
· Band Uniforms - Edna Hill band (1993)
· Scholarships
· Citizenship awards.
· Thanksgiving Food Boxes/dinners - An active event since WWII, serving dinners since 1994 and since then over 1,200 free meals searved each years!
